If someone copies a blog post that you've written and posts it on their own blog what can be done to stop them ?

If someone copies a blog post that you've written and posts it on their own blog what can be done to stop them ?

Copying online is a pretty rampant activity. Most blog owners don't even know it's being done to them. Copying takes place in taking a few words, to copying a paragraph here and there to the full blow plagiarism of an entire blog post. Even on this blog, if you've noticed.. copying anything usually gets an attribution.. one that I've personalized that appears once content has been copied using a tool called Tynt Copy / Paste tool. However, if you're in a situation where you just want to pursue the offender(s) you can always email the website or blog owner and issue a cease and desist letter. The issuance of this is to put that individual on notice that they have taken content that does not belong to them and that if they do not comply with the removal of what has been taken that they can or will be sued.

How do I generate more traffic to a blog that I started six months ago ?

How do I generate more traffic to a blog that I started six months ago ?

Generating traffic doesn't have to be this insurmountable task for anyone. The first thing that you need to do is ensure that you have enough content to sustain your readers when they visit your blog. Each time you post do the little things like joining a place like Onlywire so that you're pushing your content to nearly 50 other outlets automatically. If you're using Wordpress, install social plugins that allow you to automatically push your content to outlets that have other audiences that may be interested in your content that aren't already familiar with you or your blog.

With that said, there are hundreds of strategies that are within your grasp to drive massive traffic to your blog. It just takes a little time and effort.

How much can you realistically make with affiliate marketing if you're not a famous blogger ?

How much can you realistically make with affiliate marketing if you're not a famous blogger ?

There's no set number or amount of dollars that anyone will tell you that you can make regardless of your notoriety as a blogger. Famous or not, the reality is that you "can" realistically make money with affiliate marketing as a blogger.

Quantifying what you can make is impossible. You may as well tell someone they could have the moon. The money that you can make with affiliate marketing is dependent on several different variables. Everything from niche, to effort that you invest, to any number of strategies that you can employ to traffic, products, price and audience all affects what kind of money you can realistically make.

It's more than just asking if it's possible. Success and making money with affiliate marketing isn't possible until you make it possible and that is largely dependent on you amongst all of the other variables I've mentioned already.

What is the best technique to writing long form blog posts ?

What is the best technique to writing long form blog posts ?

I can't tell you that there is a best technique per se, but I add this to the conversation and share that there are good ingredients to writing an effective long form blog post. As you browse through many of my blog posts (with exception to the Q&A and news posts) you will see that I typically write at minimum 1000 words per post. Anything above 850 words is considered a long form blog post. Beyond the word count, other ingredients for a good long form blog post include breaking up or separating the content into several paragraphs, adding high quality images or other media, adding data, adding anything that can engage your readers and interlinking your content to other blog posts and content that you have written that is relevant to the long form blog post that you've composed.

What are the skills needed to be a successful blogger or content writer ?

What are the skills needed to be a successful blogger or content writer ?

It may seem silly to say this, but ultimately there are a couple of things that you need in order to be able to be successful at blogging and content writing, which I believe go hand in hand. You have to be able to write. We're not just talking about writing for the sake of writing, but to be able to write cohesively, with purpose, passion and with attention to detail in your writing so that it is is grammatically correct.

Additionally, if you're going to be successful, you're going to be ready to internalize a good dose of patience. You are competing with millions of other bloggers and success in blogging takes time. If you think that you are going to see success in 6 months to even a year think again. Get ready for the long haul, be patient and keep writing.

Success in this arena takes time, focus and a mindset for realizing the fruits of your work down the road and not right away.

How do I find a blog writer ?

How do I find a blog writer ?

Well the first thing that you want to do is figure out what you want your blog to be about. You need to narrow your focus. If you have someone writing on your blog and the focus is too broad, you risk not getting the kind of targeted traffic that you're ultimately going to want to have at some point.

With that said, you can always go to forums of the niche where you're seeking to find a writer. You can also to places like microworkers or odesk that will allow you to post the job that you're seeking to fill.

Ensure that you're as specific as possible about what you're seeking and the level of knowledge that your writer needs to have in order to do what you're going to be asking them to do successfully. Additionally, you should understand that the fees are going to vary widely depending on the writer's experience, the time that will be involved and the quality standard that you're looking for too.

How effective is guest posting ?

How effective is guest posting ?

I tend to think that the effectiveness of guest posting is about what you put into it. If you guest post with the mindset to get it down as quickly as possible, make it thin / short for the sake of getting the benefit of the backlink, then don't expect to get much out of it. More than likely you'll get penalized for not following blogging best practices.

So with that said, the quick answer is that guest posting can be extremely effective, but you have to do your due diligence to write blog worthy content because remember... guest posting is still a blog post that you're posting on someone else's website for their readers to read. If they like your content, they are that much more likely to head back over to your blog to read other content that you've written. Making a good first impression with your guest posting can lead to more traffic opportunities and referral traffic. A poor first impression won't be helpful to you at all and likely won't lead to you being offered other opportunities to guest post for others in the future either.

How do I create strong backlinks to my blog and website ?

How do I create strong backlinks to my blog and website ?

When it comes down to creating strong backlinks, your thoughts have to lean towards which websites do you want to be associated with ? Keep it relevant and go after "credible" sources. You don't want to get a backlink from just anywhere. If no one is familiar with the places where you're getting your links, then chances are you aren't really helping to strengthen your backlink profile either.

Writing for magazines or other places whereby their content is valued is a good place to start. Look at sites that have some notoriety. You don't have to seek out the creme de la creme and of course it would be hard for beginners to start there anyway, but going after the bottom of the barrel won't help you either even if they are giving backlinks away for free.

I tend to think that developing a products (slideshows, infographics, pdf's, online courses and audio) are the best ways to get your backlink profile going because people may embed and link to your products for their own website. You don't have to create the best of the best, but creating products puts you ahead of many others that won't even attempt it.

How can you do guest posting ?

How can you do guest posting ?

The approach that you want to take into doing guest posting is to write it with substance. People used to get into trouble for guest posting because they looked at it as a way to gain backlinks without thinking about offering something meaningful "first". To guest post the right way, you should be thinking about at least 500 to 1000 words of content. Yes, it needs to be in laymens terms, "kinda long". In fact, I would suggest that 500 words will still struggle to compete with the other guest posts out there that are far longer.

My advice is not to say, write for lengths sake, but again writing a guest post should be approached with the same mindset of writing a real blog post. If you follow the same rules that would apply to a traditional blog post, your guest post will be far more successful.

What are good and easy ways to build backlinks online for my blog ?

What are good and easy ways to build backlinks online for my blog ?

There are all sorts of good ways to build links for your blog. However, lets start with the obvious path that people take. You can pay for links. However, there's a flipside to this. Paying for links can also get you into deep water with the search engines. This strategy may work in the short term but it is a losing long term strategy.

With that said, good ways to build links for your blog include:

  • interviewing influencers
  • guest posting
  • creating infographics
  • submitting to blog directories
  • submitting posts to Google Plus
  • utilizing Scoop.it
  • participating in blog carnivals

Are backlinks necessary for affiliate marketing ?

Are backlinks necessary for affiliate marketing ?

Backlinks, whether you're talking about owning a blog or website regardless of the niche are necessary. So yes, absolutely whether the conversation is about building them or just having them, backlinks are necessary.

Now, with that said, to add to the context of this question, it's not a good idea to build backlinks that are not relevant. Your affiliate products should drive the relevance of your backlinks. If you're an affiliate for food related products then building backlinks from websites that are food related will certainly help you in your relationship with Google and in your competitive edge with others that are trying to rank for the same attention and keywords that you're trying to go after as well.

How do I get a dofollow backlink from Pinterest ?

How do I get a dofollow backlink from Pinterest ?

Here's the facts everyone. You can get a link from Pinterest, but it's not going to be dofollow. Furthermore the only way to get a link is to verify your website. This can be done through your dashboard via the settings option.

Your account has to be listed as a business and then you have to confirm your website. This can be done by simply uploading a file to your website through an FTP. There are a couple other options for site confirmation if you're not familiar with file transfer protocols.

Are people really making money out of Amazon Associates ?

Are people really making money out of Amazon Associates ?

While Amazon definitely doesn't have the best commission rates, they do have a level of trust that few other affiliate companies in the world could ever dream about having. So there's definitely that consideration when you start to think that 4% just isn't worth your time.

Blogger, Darren Rowse has stated openly that this is an affiliate program worth taking a look at. He's made over 100k dollars in his tenure with Amazon Associates.

With that said, the other consideration that you need to realize is that 4% on a $10 item is going to look at lot different than 4% on a $500 item. Additionally, the four percent is their base commission. Amazon now has bounties and commission rates above 7% as well.

So to answer this question, yes you can make money on Amazon Associates, but the amount of money that you can make varies from person to person as it would with any other affiliate program too.

Is there an email marketing tool that lets you track replies ?

Is there an email marketing tool that lets you track replies ?

There are several tools out there that can achieve this, however in spite of that, I want to focus on the fact that most of us are already familiar with the short list of big names in email. Among those are Gmail and Outlook. So it makes sense to try to stick to one whereby the learning curve isn't great at all and the transition can be seamless.

If you're blogging and conducting an email campaign and you want to see who has opened your mail or you have a desire to track any other actions regarding that email, then the software I think would work very well in the case of Gmail in particular is Replyup. It is cost effective and it's pretty straightforward even for the most technologically challenged all the while providing enough features to keep the more technologically savvy individual content with it's feature-set too.

This email marketing tool just makes sense to me because it doesn't require much additional knowledge beyond what you already know about Gmail which is extremely helpful. Beyond that, it allows for additional functionality to the Gmail platform too.

Because the world of email marketing is so large there are tons and tons of third party software programs that can achieve this question of tracking replies, but I still feel that it is better to just piggyback off of the email platforms that you're already aware of in order to achieve the ability to track replies, hence my mention and recommendation of Replyup.

How do I increase email subscribers for a blog ?

How do I increase email subscribers for a blog ?

Increasing email subscribers does require a little effort but it's certainly not impossible. When you feed your audience what they want, a common reaction is to subscribe to keep up with the content that you're writing about on your blog.

Allowing your audience to interact with you can be helpful. Personally, for my own blog I enjoy contests because it's engaging and it facilitates meaningful participation with people that are interacting with your blog.

Additionally, I think that it goes without saying that the more places you can promote and advertise your blog, the more likely you are to get email subscriptions. I would also recommend adding an exclusive email subscribe page. This can be a page where you highlight important information that could lean visitors into developing an even more positive outlook about your blog which would in turn encourage them even further to subscribe.

Another valuable tool that I use to increase subscribers is through exit intent technology through Optin monster. When people are done viewing your content, Optin monster can be configured to show lightboxes and pop ups that can display on part of the page or take up the entire page to connect with a visitor to encourage them to do any number of predefined actions that you set up including the provision of another opportunity to sign up to your email list.

How can I become expert enough to blog about a topic ?

How can I become expert enough to blog about a topic ?

Well lets be honest here.. an expert at its core is just someone that knows more than you do and that certainly varies in degrees as well. There are people on any number of topics that know a little more than you and there are others that know a lot more. In the realm of blogging, you don't start a blog because you're an expert. You start a blog because you want to write about something that you know about, that you're passionate about, that you love and want to share with others.

Nevertheless, if you can't buy into what I've said so far, then take this avenue instead... Start to follow other experts and learn all that you can about the topics that are associated with your niche. Soak it up and make connections with the people that are most respected in your niche. Get involved in some joint ventures with them which will help you to increase your exposure. This will also help to expand and improve the way you are perceived. When you are looked upon as someone very knowledgeable then the title of expert may be something that people start to associate with you. Additionally, when you start to teach others what they want to know within the niche that you're in this is yet another step that can be extremely helpful in being seen as an expert too.

Are affiliate programs still a good way to make money ?

Are affiliate programs still a good way to make money ?

Well that all depends on who you ask. If you ask someone that isn't making money through affiliate programs it's not likely that they'll tell you that it's a "good" way to make money. Now on the other hand if you ask someone that's crushing it in affiliate marketing through affiliate programs then you'll get a completely different perspective on whether it's a good way to make money.

With that said, these two different people are likely to have two different strategies for how they approach their technique to success in the affiliate programs. In fact, you want to figure out what your goals are when it comes to any affiliate program. Are you trying to make money over a few weeks, a few months or for years to completely replace a full time income that you may already be currently enjoying.

Define your goals and your strategy. The conventional wisdom out there that most people do not follow is that you're better off developing a lead capture page to get emails of people that want to buy and are willing to spend money that you can market products from your affiliate program to. Many would say that this works far better than strictly marketing your affiliate links directly.

The lesser of the two strategies will still work, but isn't likely to consistently lead to recurring commissions.

Nevertheless, the short of it is that, yes, affiliate programs are still a good way to make money, but the strategy that you use will define your level of success.

Can I get good views of at least 10k per month if I use a WordPress or Blogger blog address instead of a .com ?

Can I get good views of at least 10k per month if I use a WordPress or Blogger blog address instead of a .com ?

Having a .com doesn't mean instant success online. It doesn't mean that you'll achieve a certain amount of traffic either. Having a .com will not be the defining factor in reaching 10k views per month. I believe that Google still gives some degree of preference to a .com domain as the most authoritative sites are typically .com's but understand that there is far more to it than that in terms of reaching certain traffic goals.

Without content that truly connects to people no one is going to visit your blog. There is no silver bullet or trick to getting tons of people to read what you have to say. In fact, your goal should be to write content that makes people want to share it with others and come back to read more. Create compelling headlines that lead people to click on your links and explore your content. Is what you're writing useful ? Is what you're writing informative ? Is what you're writing helpful ?

What are good ways to create an impressive blog ?

What are good ways to create an impressive blog ?

If you're like me you've seen all sorts of blogs. You've seen really good ones that stand out to you and you've seen ones that make you wonder, how is this a blog ?

When I started blogging, I had a certain idea of what a blog should be. However, the truth is that I didn't have a clue. Quite honestly, no one really does and you are likely to tweak, tweak and tweak some more as you develop and fine tune your content and blog as well. That's perfectly normal. No one starts out of the gate getting it right. No blog is completely polished from the very beginning.

With that said, the ingredients to getting to that place of an impressive blog is incorporating things like:

  • Great content (that's the obvious one)
  • Data, if and when you can add it to support your content
  • Good looking imagery
  • Video
  • Elements that engage your visitors (survey's, games, downloads etc.)
  • Content that answers the questions your audience is bound to have
  • Having a blog that oozes professionalism from the theme, to your overall management of your blog to the final publication of your blog posts

Ensuring that these things are part of your blog will prove to be helpful in getting you to that place of impressive blog recognition.
