Are affiliate programs still a good way to make money ?

Are affiliate programs still a good way to make money ?

Well that all depends on who you ask. If you ask someone that isn't making money through affiliate programs it's not likely that they'll tell you that it's a "good" way to make money. Now on the other hand if you ask someone that's crushing it in affiliate marketing through affiliate programs then you'll get a completely different perspective on whether it's a good way to make money.

With that said, these two different people are likely to have two different strategies for how they approach their technique to success in the affiliate programs. In fact, you want to figure out what your goals are when it comes to any affiliate program. Are you trying to make money over a few weeks, a few months or for years to completely replace a full time income that you may already be currently enjoying.

Define your goals and your strategy. The conventional wisdom out there that most people do not follow is that you're better off developing a lead capture page to get emails of people that want to buy and are willing to spend money that you can market products from your affiliate program to. Many would say that this works far better than strictly marketing your affiliate links directly.

The lesser of the two strategies will still work, but isn't likely to consistently lead to recurring commissions.

Nevertheless, the short of it is that, yes, affiliate programs are still a good way to make money, but the strategy that you use will define your level of success.

Can I get good views of at least 10k per month if I use a WordPress or Blogger blog address instead of a .com ?

Can I get good views of at least 10k per month if I use a WordPress or Blogger blog address instead of a .com ?

Having a .com doesn't mean instant success online. It doesn't mean that you'll achieve a certain amount of traffic either. Having a .com will not be the defining factor in reaching 10k views per month. I believe that Google still gives some degree of preference to a .com domain as the most authoritative sites are typically .com's but understand that there is far more to it than that in terms of reaching certain traffic goals.

Without content that truly connects to people no one is going to visit your blog. There is no silver bullet or trick to getting tons of people to read what you have to say. In fact, your goal should be to write content that makes people want to share it with others and come back to read more. Create compelling headlines that lead people to click on your links and explore your content. Is what you're writing useful ? Is what you're writing informative ? Is what you're writing helpful ?

What are good ways to create an impressive blog ?

What are good ways to create an impressive blog ?

If you're like me you've seen all sorts of blogs. You've seen really good ones that stand out to you and you've seen ones that make you wonder, how is this a blog ?

When I started blogging, I had a certain idea of what a blog should be. However, the truth is that I didn't have a clue. Quite honestly, no one really does and you are likely to tweak, tweak and tweak some more as you develop and fine tune your content and blog as well. That's perfectly normal. No one starts out of the gate getting it right. No blog is completely polished from the very beginning.

With that said, the ingredients to getting to that place of an impressive blog is incorporating things like:

  • Great content (that's the obvious one)
  • Data, if and when you can add it to support your content
  • Good looking imagery
  • Video
  • Elements that engage your visitors (survey's, games, downloads etc.)
  • Content that answers the questions your audience is bound to have
  • Having a blog that oozes professionalism from the theme, to your overall management of your blog to the final publication of your blog posts

Ensuring that these things are part of your blog will prove to be helpful in getting you to that place of impressive blog recognition.

What are some of the best blogging tools ?

What are some of the best blogging tools ?

There are all kinds of tools that can help to increase your success, performance and overall reach in your blogging journey. Every blogger has their favorites that have worked wonders for them and I certainly have my own too. However, just because one blogger experiences success with a certain tool does not guarantee success for another blogger or even you.

However, even if that is the reality of the situation, you're always better off developing a blogging toolkit of some kind so that you have a variety of options to consider that will give you a chance at success on your blog as well.

I love any tool that can legitimately help me to increase my reach and presence online. I've developed a classroom webmaster tool portal where you can view all of my favorites.

What is blogging and how can I start my own blog ?

What is blogging and how can I start my own blog ?

Blogging is simply writing and that writing is published in the form of a post or blog post. There really isn't much more to it to than that as to what blogging is. However, on the matter of starting your own blog, there are various elements that work into that process.

As for my advice on it, I would simply say that the best thing you can do is pick a niche that you know something about. A topic that you can write about for a while that you actually enjoy writing about as well.

Content is extremely important. If you can't continue to produce content then the act of blogging will be difficult over time. You will need to narrow your focus because the last thing that you want to do is talk about too many subjects within the niche that you're writing about. Define what you want to achieve.

Once you've figured out what you want to write about then you can start to focus on other pertinent yet basic items such as:

  • Domain
  • Hosting
  • Blogging platform

There's far more to get into with respect to starting your blog as you'll see in the following recommendation that I'll make for you to deepen your understanding of what you'll need to do to get your blog up and going as well.

Where can I find content for my blog from where top bloggers will find content to update daily ?

There is always going to come a time when you're going to struggle to find content, but it doesn't have to be that way. There are several outlets where you can go to find new content. Among those places you can go, some of my favorites are listed here:

  • Q&A websites (there's always a trove of content suggestions there)
  • Doing competitor research using places like Ahrefs or SEMrush
  • Use Google Trends
  • Flipboard is outstanding for content suggestions as well

While there's no question there are others, these outlets I've listed will surely provide a massive amount of ideas to help you develop an endless supply of content for your eager audiences.

Where Can I find specific sites powered by Wordpress ?

It's not hard to find websites powered by Wordpress. In fact, years ago all sites received this branding. Things have changed though and website owners have the ability to remove the branding. However, you can browse a specific search engine to find out for sure.

Using the is it Wordpress search engine for now is one of the best solutions, if not "the best" solution for this area of curiosity. You can find it here: Is It Wordpress.

Which is more SEO friendly, WordPress or Squarespace ?

Which is more SEO friendly, WordPress or Squarespace ?

I don't think there is truly any platform that is going to set you apart when it comes to SEO. These days everyone has had to step up their game. The playing field has certainly been leveled quite a bit with all the updates to the Google algo and if you want to compete SEO just makes sense to be integrated well into the platform itself.

The problem in my view is that not everyone makes use of those SEO features. However, for those saavy users that utilize the SEO features regardless of whether it's Wordpress or Squarespace.. neither platform is going to deliver a knockout punch. It's really more about what you do with the platform that will propel your success in the long run.

  • Have you done well to optimize your content ?
  • Have you optimized your url slugs ?
  • How has your keyword research been integrated into your content ?
  • What does your interlinking look like ?
  • What basic and advanced SEO techniques have you instituted into your content strategy regardless of the CMS you're using ?
  • How in-depth are you willing to go in your SEO ?

These are the things that make the difference.. not the CMS you've chosen.

What's better Wordpress.com or Wordpress.org?

What's better Wordpress.com or Wordpress.org ?

Well that all depends on the individual and what amount of flexibility and level of customization you want. If you want to a more restrictive option with less options then the .com solution will be the best way to go for you. However, on the other hand, if you want more control and flexibility then you'll want to go after the .org option which is the self hosted path to take.

The .com version of Wordpress is the non-self hosted version with less options, but it also means that you don't have to pay for hosting either which could be great news to the right person.

Nevertheless there are pro's and con's to either solution, but again the most significant is on the hosting and ability to control all aspects of your blog.

If you're very familiar with the handling of websites, then the self hosted version is probably going to appeal to you more. However, if you want a solution that is ready to go out of the box without much intervention on your part, then the non-self hosted solution (.com) is what you're after.

What are the topics I can start my blog with ?

What are the topics I can start my blog with ?

The easiest way to answer this is to advise that you stick with what you know. Sure, you can blog about anything you want as that it is the beauty of blogging, but the best way to connect with people that come across your blog is to feed them what they want to know. You won't be able to do that if you aren't blogging about what you're passionate about. You won't be able to do that if you aren't talking about topics that showcase a level of knowledge that is above other people that may be blogging about the same thing.

There's no question, that conventional wisdom and advice on this question is to blog about what you love, where your passion is and what is going to keep you engaged in blogging over the long, insightful and fulfilling journey in blogging.

Amongst the best places that you can go to start a blog include:

  • Wordpress
  • Medium
  • Blogger
  • Drupal
  • Ghost
  • Tumblr

These options give you the ability to either microblog or blog traditionally. People's opinions differ on these, but from my perspective, Medium and Wordpress would be the standouts to get your blog up and running.

Of course there are other options that I have not listed, but these would be the top picks to consider.

How do I get 1000 page views in my blog within a week ?

How do I get 1000 page views in my blog within a week ?

Asking about getting a certain number of pageviews is a great question. Let's be honest, we'd all enjoy getting the secrets (if there is one) to getting to 1k pageviews in a week for a new blog. For your more established blogs, one thousand pageviews in one week isn't that tough at all to accomplish.

Let's start with this: what are pageviews ? It's a metric for website traffic. If you have traffic, you're getting pageviews. The easiest thing that I can advise here is to write your content and start to focus on getting that content some exposure, immediately.

You may ask, well how am I supposed to do that ? A couple of tools that I would recommend are going to be:

  • Onlywire
  • Justretweet

These two tools alone are huge in my toolbox to increase content exposure which ultimately improves my blog traffic and pageviews to that content too.
